Grandma's Foundation Sweet Dough Recipe
2 oz yeast
1 Tbl sugar
1 c lukewarm water
1 c milk
6 Tbl shortening
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
7 c sifted flour
3 eggs, beaten
Dissolve yeast and 1 Tbl sugar in lukewarm water. Scald milk, add shortening, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Add 2 cups flour to make a better. Add yeast and beaten eggs; beat well. Add remaining flour or enough to make a soft dough. Knead lightly and place in greased bowl. Cover and set in warm place, free from drafts. Let rise until doubled in bulk, about 2 hours. When light, punch dough down and shape as you like.
Grandma added raisins to the dough (1 cup) For cinnamon rolls, divide dough in half and put lots of butter, brown sugar and cinnamon on and roll up and cut. Let rise. Bake in 425°F oven for 20 minutes.
