Steak And Gravy For The Kids Recipe
4 cube steaks
salt and pepper
1/4 cup flour
2 T oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
Season the steaks with salt and pepper, then dredge them in the flour. Heat the oil over medium high heat. Add the steaks and brown them on each each. Transfer to a plate. Add the onion to the casserole, cooking until it softens slightly. Pour in 2/3 cup of water and stir to loosen up any bits stuck to the bottom. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn off the heat. Place the steaks on top of the liquid and onions and cover. Bake about 1 hour and 15 minutes until fork tender, at 300°F. Serve the steaks topped with the onions.
*Again, this is a meal we both grew up with. Okay, but it needed something to spice it up. Mike ate it with Worchesterhire sauce; I ate it with ketchup! LOL.
