Hoisin Beef Wraps With Sesame Dressing Recipe
(adapted from Chatelaine June 2003)

Filling:

1/4 cup hoisin sauce (plus extra to put in the wraps)
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tsp hot chili-garlic sauce (plus extra to put in the wraps)
1 tsp vegetable oil
1 lb lean ground beef
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil or 1 tsp dried
3 green onions, thinly sliced

Fixings:

1/2 large red pepper, thinly sliced
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tsp dark sesame oil
1 tsp lemon juice
4 small flour tortillas (You can get a lot more than 4 wraps out of this amount of filling)
2 to 3 cups shredded lettuce (we use spinach)

other stuff we always add:

Steamed Rice
Fresh cilantro, chopped
Carrots, grated
Hm, chopped water chestnuts would be good too...

Brown hamburger in frying pan. Drain. Stir in hoisin, OJ, chili-garlic sauce, basil, green onions (I leave these out) and, if desired, salt and pepper.

In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, sesame oil and lemon juice.

Spread meat, sesame sauce, veggies and rice in the middle of a tortilla. Tuck bottom end in and roll up like a burrito. Enjoy hot or at room temp.

B. adds tons of the garlic-chili sauce. I use lots of the sesame sauce. The kids don't like green onions so I serve it as a "fixing" to be added in. C. likes to be original, so he rolls his up like a sushi handroll and calls it a "flowerpot." B. and the kids have all taken the leftovers in their lunchboxes and it's still good!
